So, here we are heading into another Valentine's Day weekend! A new study from Amazon.ca reveals the most romantic cities in Canada. Guess what? Barrie is in the top 20....okay, so we're squeaking through at number 18....but we're there. Saskatoon is number 1. Really? I've been there. I thought the best thing about the place was that they had a Walmart...but maybe that's just me. Also on the list Guelph, Brantford, Thunder Bay and Windsor. Here's how they figure it.....they compiled sales data of romance novels, sex and relationship books, romantic comedy DVD's and Michael Buble CD's......the more of that stuff that's sold...the more romantic the place. Couldn't it mean we're just bored? So, I got thinking....Barrie? What's romantic about it? Hmmmm.....the spirit catcher? Nope...too pointy to be romantic! The Five Points? It confuses me and makes me dizzy . The White Towers motel.....not even George Clooney could make that place seem romantic. If the Maclaren Art Centre still had the big boob sculpture out on the lawn....that couldn've been a Valentine landmark. I will admit that I do admire the Terry LeClair Realty billboards around town!!!! There should be more of those..... Now, don't get me wrong...I know there's lots to love about our city. The beautiful waterfront, live theatre, two (count 'em) two Walmarts, enough Tim Hortons to keep us all well caffeinated, lots of parks and great restaurants but I just never thought of us as a romantic city ...but heck....good for us for making the list. I'm sure just knowing Barrie is so romantic will make your Valentines Day just that much more special. I gotta go find my Michael Buble Cd.
