Good morning and welcome to hump day! Yes, we are officially half way to the weekend. Isn’t it funny how you give us one four day work week and all of a sudden a five day week seems like an eternity. It’s hard to believe that in some cultures, a four day work week is the norm. I know what you’re thinking…WHERE…and WHEN CAN I MOVE THERE?! Trying to look on the bright side…at least when we do get a long weekend…we truly appreciate them….can you imagine how boring it would be if every weekend was three days? If that were the case then it would rob us of the unique joy that comes with the rarity of a long weekend…ahhh…there…I feel better…the glass is half full again…nope…not working is itJ?
With that in mind and being influenced by the book A New Earth for the second time, I wonder how much time we actually waste during the week planning ahead , looking forward, and just trying to get through to the weekend. I don’t know if you do this but I tend to section off my life in terms of paydays. For example…today is Wednesday…that would be Wednes-we are two days away from pay-Day. I think I subconsciously do that because my weekend plans often depend on my budget and whether it’s a steak and a movie or a KD and DVD rental kind of weekend really depends on it’s proximity to payday. It’s a terrible habit…this not being present in the moment thing. When you think about it, that’s five days we waste out of seven planning ahead for just two.
Unfortunately, now that I’m aware of it, I feel guilt driven to change this…this lifetime habit of not being present when I’m doing the laundry…cooking dinner…working out…taking out the garbage etc. I am going to try to change this starting today!! Starting today I will start to enjoy doing the things I AM doing more and stop dreaming about when I can do something else than what I’m doing now!! Take this blog for example…I am proud to say that I am right here…in the moment ….totally focused…ya..focused…hey I saw a really snazzy looking black Ford Focus yesterday…small cars remind me of our old Toyota Tercel…my dog Koko chewed the head off the drivers seat…I loved that dog…he smelled bad but it was nothing a little Fabreeze couldn’t cure…has anyone smelled the new Lilac Vanilla? Everything smells like vanilla nowadays…vanilla candles…vanilla dish soap…vanilla perfume…reminds me of pie…I think I’ll have some pie this Saturday…how many days away is that?
