The Dawning of a New Day...

Wednesday, November 05, 2008

Good morning!

If you're like me, you're probably a little bleary-eyed after staying up to watch Barack Obama become the 44th President of the United States...whew...what a night.

I dont care which political party you support, you'd be hard pressed to not be moved by the sheer magnitude of last night's election result. I know there wasn't a dry eye in my house as Barack took to the podium to give his first official address as the President Elect.

Black, White, Yellow, Purple...Barack Obama's win last night transcended partisan politics. To me, and for many others, his victory was a victory for hope...a victory for anyone who's ever been told that they cannot accomplish something because of who they are... and a victory for those who have the misguided perception that anything, and I mean anything, isn't possible.

Although I still think we live in the best country in the world, I found myself envying Americans last night for having a leadership candidate that could inspire passion in so many ...something that has been sorely lacking in Canadian politics for many years. Regardless of my political affiliation, it did my heart good to see those long line ups at the polls yesterday in the US...it gave me hope that one day, that could happen here and that Canadians will one day step up and take pride in our great country.

I'm sure as the days blend into weeks, this story will continue to captivate as we witness many more firsts...more  barriers being brought tumbling down.. and hopefully the chance to see America right the ship.
