My friend Vanessa and I were talking about this the other day.

Thanks to technology, text messaging and facebook messaging have become a HUGE part of the dating scene. If a guy likes you, he texts you all the time, right? Maybe right after your date when he drops you off, you get a text saying "hey, I had a really good time" and then you get a smiley face, or a winking face or whatever his technologically advanced heart desires to put in.

And A LOT of how we think guys feel about us depend on whether they text us, or facebook message us, or call us, right? How many times have you caught yourself complaining to your girlfriend, saying he never texts you first. Or he used to text you all the time, and now he doesn't.. so maybe he's not that into you?

So we got to talking about what women did back in the old days... back when there was no telephone, and Hemingway walked Bertha back to the door. I feel like those are names people would have had. And the next day, did Bertha sit by the telegraph? Did a pigeon drop a letter on her doorstep? Did Hemingway send her romantic messages via morse code??
