I live in the forest in Midhurst just north of Barrie. It's a lovely area and three months of the year it's a special place to call home - ice cream at the Midhurst General Store, great neighbours, evening walks along Willow Creek and more. Come fall though, the beauty is lost on me and I curse loudly and often in my backyard . I now have over 90 bags of leaves in front of my home ready for pickup and I could easily rake and bag another 90. It's a battle I have every autumn - getting all the leaves up before the first snow arrives - and I came to the conclusion not long ago, that I'll never win this yearly fight with Mother Nature. Isn't that bad of me? We're supposed to be embracing the environment these days, but if David Suzuki knocked on my door I'd turn him away unless he had a flame thrower and burn bin for my leaves. Guess what I'm doing this weekend? Bring a rake if you come to visit.
