With a doubt, my favourite Halloween as a kid was the Halloween my Mom made me a suit of knight's armour. This thing was a work of art taking weeks to make. It was made out of chicken wire and paper mache to fit my body and spray painted silver to look like metal. It had a chest plate and back. Leggings and arms that could maneouver at the knees and elbows. I had a visored helmet with a sword. It was awesome and Mom went all out as it won first place that year for best costume for my Cub/Scout pack. The only trouble with it was when it came time to go out and trick or treat in the thing I could hardly walk in it. I wasn't the most nimble in it, and let's face it, at 9 years old, trick or treating is all about hitting as many homes as possible in the shortest period of time. I needed to be mobile and I moved more like Robo Cop than Speedy Gonzales that Halloween. No wonder those medieval knights travelled best on horseback. Despite the smaller candy haul that Halloween, that knight's outfit remains one of my favourite trick or treat memories. What's yours?
